Restaurants Main Conduit for Identity Theft

According to a recent study by Visa, 40 percent of all identity thefts start at restaurants. The first thought that comes to mind is shady restaurant staff swiping card numbers. The reality is that the staff is usually clean. It’s often hackers who break into a restaurant’s back office servers. How to fix this? Visa is holding restaurants more accountable and urging them to install the proper computer security measures.

I have been recently to the couple of restaurants where they actually bring the credit card machine to your table and swipe the card right there. So the card never leaves the table and your view.
At first was strange, but reading news - it’s safer that way.
